Pre-K Special Education

I attended elmentary school in North Carolina. In the 10th grade, I moved to Sylacauga, Alabama and graduated from there in 1984. In the fall of 1984, I began attending Auburn University and graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education for the Handicapped in December 1988. I recieved my Master's Degree in Specific Learning Disabilities from Columbus College in June 1993.

On January 3, 1989, I began working for Lee County Schools. I first began working in the Smiths Station area with 2nd and 3rd graders. Over the years, I also taught students in 4th, 5th, and 6th. In August 2000, a PreK through 3rd grade position opened  up at Loachapoka. Since that is the age group that I love working with, and since I had been living in Tallassee and driving to Smiths Station since 1997, I took the job. In 2002, I began to work with only the preschoolers. At that time, I traveled to Boykin Center, Darden Center and the daycares.

In August 2005, Lee County Schools and ACHR developed partnership classrooms. There were 2 in Smiths and 1 at Darden Center. In 2007, the Headstart/Lee County classroom at Darden was moved to Loachapoka and has been here ever since.

I was born in Pensacola, Florida. When I was 6 years old, my parents, my younger brother and I moved to Charlotte, NC. When I was 14, we moved to Sylacauga, AL. I attended Auburn University and then got a job teaching with Lee County. After teaching for 4 years, I returned to school for my Master's Degree.

Currently, I am a single parent of twins. I have a boy and a girl. They attend 6th grade at Southside Middle School in Tallassee. I spend the majority of my time working and taking care of my children. On the weekends when they visit their father, I enjoy studying genealogy, scrapbooking, and spending time with friend. My children and I enjoy going to movies, and taking various "family field trips", and playing with our dog and our cat.
